Emotional Freedom Technique, commonly referred to as EFT, is based
on the discovery that imbalances in the body’s energy system profoundly affect
one’s emotional state. Humans and animals alike have highly efficient
electrical systems that relay information throughout the body on a continuous
basis. This is not a new concept. Thousands of years ago, the Chinese identified
a series of meridians that act as pathways for our energy to flow. If these
pathways become blocked or disrupted, one can feel unbalanced emotionally and
physically. Acupuncture is a well-known Eastern method of healing that has it's
roots in balancing meridians. Think of EFT as acupuncture's Western cousin.
Through the process of tapping on certain body locations, energy blocks can be
released. Energy block equals negative thought.
When using EFT, we do
not diagnose which energy meridian is disrupted. It is a fast and simple
technique and we tap on all the meridians during the treatment. EFT can be done
directly on your animal companion if he/she is willing. It is non-invasive and
it is done by tapping the index and middle finger on the animal's meridian
points. The tapping is done with some pressure. EFT is often painless, but the
area tapped on can be somewhat sensitive, particularly when tapping on the
blocked meridian. More commonly when working with
animals the surrogate method of EFT is used. EFT is also successful when done during distance sessions.
When using
EFT with animals, my
first option is to act as a surrogate with your companion during
an animal communication. He/she will not feel any physical discomfort or
pain during the session. After identifying the underlying emotion
that may be causing a behavior issue or physical dis-ease, I
will do surrogate EFT on the animal's meridian points. I either
look into the photo of your animal companion, or clearly see the animal in
my mind, and imagine tapping on his body while physically tapping on my own
corresponding meridian points. Positive results can be immediate and
permanent. My second option involves the assistance of you, your beloved's
guardian. Sometimes if your animal has many issues troubling him/her,
it can be helpful to have you participating in the tapping process. This
can be particularly true if your animal's behavior is somehow a reflection of
your own fears or concerns.
A
final word on EFT and physical healing. EFT has proven to successfully
alleviate physical ailments. If the root cause of a physical malady is
of an emotional nature, physical healing can take place. Please do not assume
that your animal's physical dis-ease is a result of an energy blockage.
It is imperative that your companion animal be seen by a qualified
veterinarian to diagnose and either rule out or treat any physical disharmony.
